Spent the day doing…well, not a lot. Had lunch with a friend, picked up supplies for the long few weeks ahead when the dining halls are far afield, etc etc. Had a wonderful drive through a sunny, if a bit cold, Route 47 in South Hadley. Lots of twisty roads and sun-dappled roads, my Yo-Yo Ma in the player. Oh, winter.
Links for today:
See above link for a guide to non-edible consumer goods and when is the best time to purchase things so you don’t end up with quickly obsolete or over-priced stuff. Also, check out the Guide to Seasonal Foods to help know when strawberries are actually in season and how much chard you’ll have to eat in the winter (applicable in Britain and New England).
Link is to some stunning pics (above) of the Harbin Ice Festival, which I have wanted to attend for…oh…6 years. Haven’t made it over there yet, but I am determined to do so sometime in my 20s. Also, some funny snowmen from northern China beat the pants off of the anatomically correct snowwomen I saw before winter break. Step up your game, America.
Didn’t see “Super-Size Me” or “Sicko” when they first came out? That’s okay, you can watch them over at this site, which has legally compiled a bunch of them in the interests of improving everyone’s knowledge about the world.
Interesting piece in the NYTimes (fashion section, not sure why it was there) on how much digital interactions have messed up formerly “clean breaks” at the end of relationships. It’s really hard to de-friend an ex.
Side by side analysis of what you’re really getting between HTCs, iphones, Androids, etc etc.
